Interesting reading it in the context of psychedelic experience rather than physical death. A wonderful illustration of Americana–take an ancient venerated text the Tibetan Book of the Dead and appropriate it for your own purposes totally unrelated.
So you arguably don’t have to experience any of it to be enlightened. Perhaps a bit esoteric for those who are not intimate with the teachings of the Bardo Thodol though great effort is made to make these teachings accessible in the book.
Whether made applicable as a “manual”, I think it’s quite mortoa compelling read into the elements of our psyche, its limits – and what lies beyond.

I will definitely be utilizing the instructions written in the last part of the book the next time I trip mirtos for someone. I don’t necessarily agree that it’s all in your head.

Strikingly cogent and poetically profound, Leary succeeds in an incredible feat – to, at the very least, paint a picture of consciousness and the ego’s drive to understand and validate its reality.

Nowadays, and in the past, people thought Tim Leary was wrong. Their insights into the connection between the psychedelic experience and “spiritual” experiences were interesting but the fact that they would acknowledge where their knowledge ends is also refreshing.
