The Mapping of Fluidization Regimes. The diagrams are drawn more boldly and modern devices, such as shaded boxes, boxed equations and headings in the margin, are used. This does not detract from the value of levenspie, revision, and I am sure that anyone who levenspiell found the original useful anx find the second edition well worth buying.
The academic background of Levenspiel shows in the pedagogical approach of the book. The omission of the latter is surprising in that it has been a major problem for fluidized coal combustion, the development of which is given by the authors as a reason for producing a new edition.
Completely revised and updated, it is essentially a new book. Perhaps the best justification for describing this edition as an essentially new book lies in the presentation.
Its aim is to distill from the thousands of studies those particular developments that are pertinent for the engineer concerned with predictive methods, for the designer, and for the user and potential user of fluidized beds. KuniiOctave Levenspiel Limited preview – The talents and experience of both authors xnd well in the book. The structure is clear and there are many useful worked examples. There is a heavy bias towards Japanese processes in a comprehensive coverage.
The use of margins is enfineering consistent between text and diagrams and this gives a lop-sided feel, particularly when there are no marginal headings on a page with both text and figures. Overall, this is a uknii presented book, which will be of value to both students and designers who desire a deeper understanding of fluidized bed reactors and their applications.
Other applications that require the same principles are included in the overall scheme. Two examples are the design of dryers, which requires heat and mass transfer but without reaction, and pneumatic conveying, which is used to transport solids to and from reactors. Perhaps this should be counted as an advantage in that half the pages are easily read!
