The lesson could apparently be to guard your virtue and good things will come to you, but it seems a little far-fetched.

A True History by Aphra Behn. It could be a lesson in the evils of the world, but, again, this does not seem to be the most apparent message. Throughout her long career, she wrote in various forms–poetry, plays, prose–and is known as a member of the ‘fair triumvirate of wit’ alongside fellow scribes Eliza Haywood and Delarivier Manley.

Aside from the iffy love affair wi An innocent girl, sold to a brothel by her dissolute brother! My, what a fate! I am suspicious of the subtitle: Beyond that, I am not immediately aware of where I should start my critique or response to this.
